Accreditation Process

Step 1: Eligibility & Application

Applicants begin the process by submitting an official ACAMS accreditation application.

Includes:

  • Institutional profile and scope of services

  • Legal registration and compliance documents

  • Details of clinical services or training programs

  • Faculty, trainers, or medical team credentials

  • Infrastructure and facility overview

Ensures the applicant meets baseline eligibility criteria.

Step 2: Documentation & Standards Review

ACAMS conducts a structured review of submitted documents to verify alignment with defined standards.

Evaluation focuses on:

  • Academic or clinical framework

  • Curriculum structure (if applicable)

  • Patient safety and ethical policies

  • Quality assurance mechanisms

  • Transparency and record management

Confirms compliance with ACAMS quality benchmarks.

Step 3: Quality Evaluation & Assessment

A comprehensive assessment is performed to evaluate real-world implementation of standards.

Assessment may include:

  • Desk-based evaluation

  • Virtual assessment

  • On-site inspection (where applicable)

Reviewed areas:

  • Infrastructure and equipment standards

  • Faculty or practitioner qualifications

  • Clinical governance and safety protocols

  • Learning outcomes and assessment methods

Step 4: Accreditation Committee Review

All findings are presented to the ACAMS Accreditation Committee.

Committee responsibilities:

  • Conditional Accreditation

  • Deferred Decision (pending improvements)

  • Official ACAMS Accreditation Certificate

Ongoing requirements:

  • Continuous compliance with standards

  • Periodic reporting if required

  • Notification of significant institutional changes
