

Certification Renewal & CPD Policy
The American Council of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery (ACAMS) is committed to maintaining the relevance, integrity, and credibility of its Board Certification through a structured Renewal and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework.
This policy applies to all ACAMS Board-Certified professionals.
Ensuring Ongoing Competence, Ethics, and Professional Development
Purpose of Certification Renewal
Certification renewal ensures that board-certified professionals:

Maintain current knowledge and skills

Adhere to ethical and professional standards

Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning

Align with evolving best practices in aesthetic medicine and surgery
Certification Validity Period

ACAMS Board Certification is granted for a defined validity period.

Certification must be renewed prior to expiry to maintain active status.

Failure to renew may result in certification lapse or inactive status.
Renewal Requirements
To renew ACAMS Board Certification, professionals must:
1. Maintain Professional Eligibility

Hold valid professional registration or license where required by law

Practice within their approved scope of competence

Remain in good professional standing
2. Fulfill CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Requirements
Certified professionals must complete CPD activities relevant to their specialty.
Accepted CPD activities may include:

Accredited courses, workshops, or masterclasses

Scientific conferences and congresses

Clinical skill enhancement programs

Research, publications, or academic contributions

Teaching or training roles (where applicable)
CPD activities must be relevant, verifiable, and ethically delivered.
3. Documentation Submission
Applicants for renewal must submit:

ACAMS may request additional documentation if required.
4. Ethics & Compliance Declaration
All renewal applicants must:

Reaffirm adherence to the ACAMS Code of Ethics

Disclose any disciplinary actions, legal issues, or ethical concerns

Confirm compliance with applicable laws and regulations
5. Review & Renewal Approval

Submitted renewal applications are reviewed by the ACAMS Certification Committee

Approval is based on compliance with renewal criteria

ACAMS reserves the right to request additional information or clarification
Certification Status
Active Status

Certification is valid and in good standing
-
CPD and renewal requirements are fulfilled
Lapsed / Inactive Status

Certification has expired or renewal requirements are unmet

Use of ACAMS designation must cease until reinstated
Reinstatement Policy
Professionals with lapsed certification may apply for reinstatement, which may require:

Additional CPD completion

Reassessment or review

Payment of applicable fees
