Board Certification Process

Step 2: Credential & Documentation Review

ACAMS evaluates submitted documents to verify professional background and competency alignment.

Assessment focuses on:

  • Academic and clinical qualifications

  • Training history in aesthetic medicine or surgery

  • Professional experience and case exposure

  • Ethical standing and professional conduct

✔ Ensures credibility and qualification integrity.

Step 3: Knowledge & Competency Assessment

Applicants undergo a structured assessment designed to evaluate theoretical knowledge and clinical understanding.

May include:

  • Written or online examination

  • Case-based discussions

  • Practical or skills-based assessment (where applicable)

✔ Measures professional competency against ACAMS board standards.

Step 4: Board Review & Decision

Assessment results are reviewed by the ACAMS Board Certification Committee.

Committee responsibilities:

  • Review examination and assessment outcomes

  • Ensure fairness and consistency

  • Determine certification status

Possible outcomes:

  • Board Certified

  • Conditional Approval (additional requirements)

  • Deferred Decision

Step 5: Certification Issuance & Maintenance

Successful applicants receive official ACAMS Board Certification.

  • Board Certification Certificate

  • Certification validity period

  • Authorization to use ACAMS board-certified designation (as per guidelines)

  • Continued professional development (CPD)

  • Ethical practice adherence

  • Periodic renewal or reassessment
